I am one of these people who LOVE Christmas, yes that had to be caps lock because I do really mean it. It’s undoubtedly my favorite time of the year and although we really enjoy the beauty of it, sometimes some of us find it very hard to get into the Christmas spirit. Either that is work or personal life, there is always something going on that doesn’t let us enjoy the moment fully. Over the past years, I found a few small tricks that help cheer up my mood and get me into the Christmas spirit. Today I’ll be sharing a few tricks that are a sure way to get you in a festive mood instantly.

1: Acts of Kindness
One of my favorite ways to get in the Christmas spirit is to practice random acts of kindness. It’s hard to be in a low mood when you start spreading smiles to others.
2: Decorate your home for Christmas early
It wasn’t even Halloween yet when a fully lit Christmas tree appeared in the living room window of a house in my neighborhood in Los Angeles a few years ago. It looked out of place flanked by houses draped in faux spider webs and pumpkins. I wondered what would posses the homeowners to get in the Christmas spirit so early, but according to one expert, the answer is pretty simple.
Christmas stuff makes people feel good, so go ahead and get the tree out before Thanksgiving if you want.
“In a world full of stress and anxiety, people like to associate to things that make them happy and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of the childhood,” “Decorations are simply an anchor or pathway to those old childhood magical emotions of excitement. So putting up those Christmas decorations early extends the excitement.”
3: Bake something
There’s nothing quite like the smell of fresh baked goods wafting through the house to put you in a good mood. Don’t want to feel guilty for consuming all those calories? Wrap some up and take them to a neighbor, or down to a homeless shelter. Lift someone else’s spirits and your own in the process.
4: Make Your List and Set Your Budget
This time of year, a lot of stress comes from waiting until the last minute to figure out what to give your loved ones. Even more stress is added when you don’t have the funds to pay for everything you’d like to or you over spend because you failed to plan for it. Take some stress and worry off of yourself by writing out your gift list and setting a realistic budget for each person. You don’t have to spend a fortune to give a thoughtful, meaningful gift. If you’re making gifts this year, give yourself time to do it. If your budget is tight, look around for sales, whether at the store or online. Make a plan, stick to it and work on completing it early. Don’t wait until the last minute. Once you have planned and set your budget, you may find that the Christmas spirit will flow freely from you.
5: Blast Christmas tunes on Youtube
I recently discovered burning fireplaces on Youtube. For hours you can enjoy a crackling fire and listen to the most wonderful Christmas songs. From smooth Jazz to traditional Christmas carols. Perfect for romantic evenings with your love or after a long day of work. It looks gorgeous on my TV screen in my home and puts me in an instant holiday mood. I have been obsessed lately!
6: Ignite a flame
A candle, that is! Just engaging your sense of smell by lighting holiday/winter scented candles can lift just about any mood.
7: Walk throught your city and watch the lights
Amsterdam is amazing during the holiday season when the city just lights up. One of my favorite things to do is take my hubby and go for a long walk into central Amsterdam. We love going for coffee and hot cocoa while planning the family Christmas party we are hosting this year. Our strolls through the city always get us in the greatest Christmas mood.
8: Wrap Gifts
This really helps me to get in the mood. What’s more festive than beautiful presents under the tree. I think the presentation is almost as important as the gift. The prettier the better.
Remember…
This is a great time of year to reflect on our many blessings. I encourage you to try and not get caught up in the commercialism and remember what the season is truly about. It’s about giving, caring, loving and appreciation. We need to remember this not only during the Christmas season, but all year long. The season isn’t about the weather, how much money we spend on gifts or how perfect our Christmas decorations are. Enjoy the season and keep the spirit of Christmas alive, always.
How do you guys get into the holiday spirit?
Thanks for stopping by
with love
